TekMao is a blend of festive music genres. On one side, the traditional Breton music heard at Festoù-Noz, where dance naturally takes centre stage. On the other, Techno, the party music they discovered on the underground scene during their student years. The band simply named this mix Techno-Trad.
It brings together people of all ages and backgrounds around high-energy shows where electro lovers and traditional music fans alike always find what they came for. TekMao’s influences are eclectic and rustic: most of the tunes are original compositions, but many traditional themes are also woven in and reworked. The TekMao sound is recognisable by the bagpipes and the bombard, of course, but also by their distinctive Techno beats that wander off the beaten track.
TekMao was founded in 2016 by Malo Gentil and Malo Breton. On a whim, Malo G. decided to add bagpipes to one of his Techno tracks, and immediately called on his lifelong friend Malo B. to add the bombard: that is how the essence of TekMao was born.
In 2017, Toutz joined the band as a DJ so they could play live and bring new variations to the tracks.
In 2019 they released their first album, “Le Maill’”. Since then the band has never stopped touring the stages of the region, from Festoù-Noz and bars to festivals.
In 2022 they released a special EP, “The Drunken Rebelioñs”: covers of Irish songs to delight Celtic music fans of every kind.
In 2025 comes their second album, a self-titled record simply called “TekMao”.
